Back to basics

Some people have nothing but basics in their wardrobes. Drawers full of jeans and plain knits and good quality tees that go with everything. Practical people who don't like to spend their money on frivolous items and crazy prints.

Not me.

The complete opposite, I'm all about floral frocks and printed blouses and coloured knits. That go with pretty much nothing else I own. Because I can't seem to bring myself to buy basics.

Which brings me to Viktoria & Woods, who do basics brilliantly. And who are inspiring me to fill those wardrobe gaps with PRACTICAL pieces.

Phew. It felt good to get that off my chest.

I can't say no

I can't say no to polka-dots at the best of times. Which means that this adorable top by Steele MUST BE MINE.

As much as I love my winter woolies, I need some colour and frivolity to get me through the grey and gloomy days I know are heading our way.

We all know we're in the midst of a Global Financial Crisis and even though we've been pretty lucky down here in Oz, most of us are watching our pennies.

Today I saw some chocolate long-stemmed roses in Safeway for $2.50 a pop. So cheap! So cheerful!

But what I really want for Mother's Day is this Antipodium top. Now that would make me smile.

Unfortunately, it's not a look I feel I could pull off myself without looking like a Big Brother housemate.

But, I am thinking that these Something Else pants would be just as comfy as a pair of jim-jams, but with a little more of a cool street wear vibe.

I looked out my window this morning and saw a rainbow. It kind of reminded me of these lovely leather cuffs by Dimacci. A rainbow on your wrist. I like it.

Hello. Melbourne. What are you doing to me? One minute it's freezing, the next I'm sweating like Meatloaf on the Celebrity Apprentice when he was about to be booted off. Argh.

Yes, I know this is technically the Ginette dress, but I prefer to refer to it as the Geena. Can you not picture her wearing it on the road in Thelma and Louise? What a classic.

Heaven knows I'm miserable now - NOT!

Yes. It's true. I had a crush on Morrisey when I was young and innocent with no idea that he preferred gentlemen to ladies. But I still think he is hilarious in his whiny, middle-class Englishman way.

I have no idea why Viktoria and Woods call this jumper the 'Morrissey boxy knit' but it sure is cute. It also possesses an uncanny ability to brighten those dreary Melbourne winter days.

A bit like The Smiths who continue to comfort whiny middle class teenagers world-wide.
