This is Life with Bird's 'yes' top.

Kind of hard to say no, isn't it?

Back to basics

Some people have nothing but basics in their wardrobes. Drawers full of jeans and plain knits and good quality tees that go with everything. Practical people who don't like to spend their money on frivolous items and crazy prints.

Not me.

The complete opposite, I'm all about floral frocks and printed blouses and coloured knits. That go with pretty much nothing else I own. Because I can't seem to bring myself to buy basics.

Which brings me to Viktoria & Woods, who do basics brilliantly. And who are inspiring me to fill those wardrobe gaps with PRACTICAL pieces.

Phew. It felt good to get that off my chest.

I can't say no

I can't say no to polka-dots at the best of times. Which means that this adorable top by Steele MUST BE MINE.

Monday, May 21, 2012

Steele are here. Just in time.

As much as I love my winter woolies, I need some colour and frivolity to get me through the grey and gloomy days I know are heading our way.

Steele are a Melbourne-based label that are new to Frisck and there is nothing remotely dreary about their colourful prints and splashes of colour.

Just what the doctor ordered.

A Bul-tastic bargain

We all know we're in the midst of a Global Financial Crisis and even though we've been pretty lucky down here in Oz, most of us are watching our pennies.

This coat by Bul comes in at under $300 and is super-stylish to boot.

Now, that's what I'm talking about.

*We have the classic black version in store now.

Mother's Day Delight

Today I saw some chocolate long-stemmed roses in Safeway for $2.50 a pop. So cheap! So cheerful!

But what I really want for Mother's Day is this Antipodium top. Now that would make me smile.

Hint, hint.

Not pyjamas. But just as comfy

Doesn't Sofia Coppola look cool in this pyjama suit?

Unfortunately, it's not a look I feel I could pull off myself without looking like a Big Brother housemate.

But, I am thinking that these Something Else pants would be just as comfy as a pair of jim-jams, but with a little more of a cool street wear vibe.

What do you think?

New boots in store now

Sometimes I still wish I could still pull off a pair of Doc 8-ups. Seriously, could I ever? (

These Senso booties on the other hand? Delightful on any pair of feet.

Belts: an underrated accessory

Belts are an underrated accessory. They can change the shape of an ensemble in two seconds flat, yet they so often remain the overlooked middle child.

No more!

Belts. It's your time to shine. I mean, when you're wearing grass green patent leather around your middle, what else is there to do?

I see a rainbow

I looked out my window this morning and saw a rainbow. It kind of reminded me of these lovely leather cuffs by Dimacci. A rainbow on your wrist. I like it.

New Kate Sylvester and Sylvester in store now

If there's one thing that makes Kate Sylvester a sartorial genius, it's her ability to know exactly what women want to wear year in, year out. So naturally, I want all these pieces. Who, afterall, doesn't need a great knit and a few cute tops to wear with skirts and pants?

And mother's day is coming up...

Hint, hint.

The Bell Jar

My ideal night back in the 90s? Lying on my futon reading The Bell Jar while The Smiths played in the background.

Argh!

At least we all know Sylvia Plath had great style and that dishy husband of hers, well...

Which brings me to Fleur Wood's Bell Jar cardi. Much less depressing than its namesake, and so perfect for the cold mornings that have suddenly embraced our Melbourne streets.

You can see it effortlessly thrown over the shoulder of one of our Frisck girls here.

Just the sweater

Hello. Melbourne. What are you doing to me? One minute it's freezing, the next I'm sweating like Meatloaf on the Celebrity Apprentice when he was about to be booted off. Argh.

That's why I love this Something Else sweater. A perfect layering piece that's not too hot when the sun comes out. Perfection.

A little piece of Jackie

While we're on the subject of cute autumn tops, check out this Onassis blouse by Fleur Wood.

Very Jackie O - and I'm not talking about the one who hangs out with Kyle Sandilands.

The Serial Mom tee

I'm having another fashion/movie flashback. This time I'm channeling Kathleen Turner as the sweet mum gone a little nuts in the John Waters classic, Serial Mom.

Antiopodium are clearly on the same wavelength with this lovely little top inspired, or at least named after, the film.

Wear it, serial mom or not.

She was a prickly thorn

No one really knew how to take her. Some said she didn't suffer fools, others said she was just plain mean. I thought she was mysterious.

She was a prickly thorn.

The Ginette Dress is easy

OMG. How much to I love Geena Davis?

Yes, I know this is technically the Ginette dress, but I prefer to refer to it as the Geena. Can you not picture her wearing it on the road in Thelma and Louise? What a classic.

Thanks Kate Sylvester. You've done it again.

Heaven knows I'm miserable now - NOT!

Yes. It's true. I had a crush on Morrisey when I was young and innocent with no idea that he preferred gentlemen to ladies. But I still think he is hilarious in his whiny, middle-class Englishman way.

I have no idea why Viktoria and Woods call this jumper the 'Morrissey boxy knit' but it sure is cute. It also possesses an uncanny ability to brighten those dreary Melbourne winter days.

A bit like The Smiths who continue to comfort whiny middle class teenagers world-wide.

A really awesome pair of stompers

I post these boots reluctantly. You see, I really want a pair for myself and I am fearful that any added publicity will cause them to sell out.

But being the generous blogger that I am, here they are.

Crazy for Cable

If you follow us on Facebook, you already know that Frisck have gone crazy for Cable this season. And if you pop into the store, you'll quickly know why.

Cable 2012 is quite simply, AMAZING.

Think capes, wraps and cardis in pure merino wool. Just the thing to ward off winter chills without the bulkiness of a coat. We love.
