Cool shoes

I remember when life was simple. When the only shoes I owned were a pair of Doc Marten 10-ups and some yellow Converse All-Stars. Then, one day I bought a pair of brown Mary Janes from Mollini and that was it. I became addicted to shoes. I realised that no, Docs don't go with everything. And they are not very flattering.

Now that I'm adding these amazing Opening Ceremony booties to my collection, my old Docs would be so jealous. 'So what if we make you look like a stumpy old troll', they'd say. 'We were so hip back in the 90s.'

'Yes you were,' I would reply. But I believe in tough love. So I'd put on these suede beauties and stand tall and elegant and walk away feeling fantastic. So there.

House of Harlow at Frisck!

Hollywood is obviously not an easy place to live. Especially for child stars who are no longer particularly famous. The tragic death of Corey Haim is proof of that. Then there are others, like Lindsay Lohan and of course, Britney, who are train wrecks waiting to happen.

Nicole Ritchie, on the other hand, well...she is different. She has someone managed to get out of the party-hard gutter and create this gorgeous collection of gems waiting to be worn. I feel kind of embarrassed that I ever doubted her.

This is a sample of what we have at Frisck. More to come.

Autumn perfection

It's early autumn. You have plans for a picnic in the Botanical Gardens. The sun is shining, the leaves are changing colour and you've baked a gorgeous batch of strawberry cupcakes for dessert. But then you realise, you have nothing to wear! You are lacking the perfect picnic ensemble! You panic. But then you remember spotting this sweet-as-can-be Lolita dress at Frisck.

Luckily they have one left. In your size. The day turns out just the way you planned.

Bling-tastic

Sometimes we all need a bit of casual bling. And by that I don't mean velour tracksuits with heels and nail art. No, I'm thinking more along the lines of a cotton, slightly over-size tee with gold stripes and a flattering scoop neck. Chuck on a leather jacket when it gets breezy, or wear along for comfy sartorial goodness. Perfect for early autumn when no one really knows what the weather is going to be.

Transeasonality

2010. Year of the trans. Transgender awareness, transfats, public TRANSport debacles. I even recently wrote a chapter for a book about transreality. Probably best not to ask about that one.

But if there's one trans we know about in Melbourne, it's the beauty of the transeasonal piece. Essential in a city famous for having four-seasons-in-one-day, we need pieces that work no matter what. This Woodford & Co zebra tee = perfection. Layer, or where as is. The choice is yours.

The short of it

So all the mags are going crazy for Alice in Wonderland inspired fashion. Think Mad Hatter tea parties, technicolor dresses and purple eyeshadow. Sadly, not so wearable for most of us. Check out any self-respecting style blog, however, and it's all about shorts in winter. When worn over tights, teamed with boots and a long chunky knit, it's a totally doable look surprisingly flattering.

We love these Taboo shorts by TL Wood. In store now.

Chambray express

I don't know about you, but back in the eighties I was obsessed with chambray. Boy did I love the chambray shirt my Oma bought me from Treasureway. It went with everything and the hue was so flattering. So I have to say, 'Thankyou Woodford & Co for bringing denim's soft and wearable little cousin back into my life.' Especially in the form of this ruffle shirt dress. So cool.
